Before you read on, please remember that it’s pledge drive month for your forecaster (that’s me – Temira). I’m not like NPR or C89.5. No federal funding here. Just funding by people looking for fun. And I need your help to keep this valuable, gas-saving, fun-providing forecast going! Here’s the scoop: It’s fund drive month! If I get donations totaling $15 or more on a given day, I’ll post a forecast the next day. If not, only the people on the mailing list get the forecast. $12 gets you on the mailing list, and gets you in the running for occasional sponsor giveaways. Thanks for understanding that I have to make a living, thanks for helping me do what I love, and thank you for your support!

Tomorrow’s forecast status: Thanks for the donations. The coast was super fun… and it was the first time I’ve gotten out of town all summer!

I’m going to start off this morning with one of those occasional quotes from the National Weather Service. Their forecast discussion currently says, “CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY BE OPPRESSIVE FOR A SEVERAL DAY STRETCH.” Sorry. They like to shout. I’d probably whisper those words out of fear that someone would beat me for saying them.

All I can say is thank goodness we have a lot of rivers around here to beat the humid heat!

We’re looking at mid-nineties to low 100’s for the next several days, so if you don’t have a pool floaty or innertube and some sunscreen, go get one now. If you have kids under 18, sign them up for the Positively Kai standup paddle event tomorrow at Hood River’s waterfront park. It’s free, there are lessons, lunch and demos. Go to positivleykai.com or bigwinds.com to sign up. If you don’t have kids, maybe whitewater rafting is the call with the White Salmon at 2.5ft and the rafting companies all running Husum Falls.

For those of you who believe the axiom “When it’s hot in the Gorge, it’s windy at the coast,” you’re buying into a false truth. It’s going to be nearly calm out there today, with the wind switching to light south at some point over the next day or two. It’s not going to be windy anywhere in the state except at Stevenson, Rooster, and up in the mountains today. It’s supposed to be almost 90 on the north coast. I am going surfing.

We’ll get east wind at 17-19 at Rooster and Stevenson and 5-10 everywhere else today, with the strongest wind between 9am and 1pm. Tomorrow and Saturday, the wind will pretty much die off completely. Ugh. It’s going to be smoking hot. Bikram anything if you’ll be outside. Westerlies return for Sunday and Monday.

Don’t forget to get your kids signed up for the free Positively Kai standup paddle event tomorrow. Free lessons. Free races. Free demos. Free lunch. This sounds like free babysitting on a 100 degree day! Why wouldn’t you? Joking aside, please spread the word. What kid wouldn’t want to play in the river with a bunch of cool pro surfer dudes from Maui?

For the hot weekend, there’s the Naish Standup Paddle Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, with free SUP demos and lessons. There’s the Paddle for the Park fundraiser at 9am at Hood River’s Waterfront Park Saturday, and the Kids in Motion bike and run fundraiser on Saturday in Bingen. There’s also a fundraiser for the White Salmon Pool on Saturday evening in Bingen.

Have an awesome day today!
